Welcome to sixth grade science!! It’s going to be a fabulous year! I am a graduate of the University of North Dakota and have spent five years teaching elementary school and eight years teaching middle school. I am married and have two children and five dogs. My daughter is in the tenth grade at Osbourn Park High School in the Biotech program. My son is attending NOVA.
My husband is retired form the Air Force and continues to work for the government. As a military wife, my travels have taken me to classrooms in Arkansas, North and South Dakota, South Carolina, New York, and Virginia. My experience ranges from teaching self-contained special education to Honors/Extended classes. Before coming to Marsteller I taught fifth grade language arts and science for three years at Pennington Traditional School, where I helped develop the fifth grade writing program and organized the elementary science fair.
I am a passionate organic gardener and environmentalist. My garden is a certified Wildlife Habitat and Monarch Waystation. In my spare time I enjoy reading, baking, traveling, making jewelry, spending time at my favorite DC art museums, and hanging out with friends and family. I am also an enthusiastic volunteer for Friends of Homeless Animals (www.foha.org), a no-kill shelter in Loudoun County. I spend every Sunday afternoon at FOHA walking dogs and helping potential adopters.
It is my goal to help my students realize how relevant and important science is!! In my class, scientific thought and discovery isn’t an abstract process but an active progression of the sixth grade intellect that teaches my students how much science we use in our daily lives.
